I have to comment...

Rebirth is a wonderful skill with high prot attribute (I have 14 most of the time). Of course, as a monk, I never use it in the middle of a battle, thats for others to do. Its simply the best res skill available I believe, because of its non-aggro pull. Even the Sunspear Rebirth signet actually aggro's mobs in the target's range, so thats not good.

I dont see a good reason to use ressurect, restore life should work much better for other team-mates.

As a side note, it was mentioned earlier - Unyielding Aura is actually a fantastic skill, even though it uses an elite slot. It can come in extremely useful to eliminate dp beyond 15% on a tank in dangerous situations, on top of the re-application of his services immediately in dangerous places. It can be used rather effectively in very difficult missions (eg. fire island/HM), I know, I've done it.

In the end however, if you do party recovery after mobs have been eliminated it really doesnt matter at all what ressurect you use.

i use ressurect most of the time because i never really meet that sort of situation and its just simply easy to use and as long as the monks know how to kite and stay in the spell-sight im not bothered because all you need is a party that knows what to do or as long as you can manage henchmen simple^^

Resurrect is just purely inferior. I can say that if your team has eliminated the immediate threat, the res being used is neglegible.Yet, a res that gives back no energy is not the best you, as a player, can bring.

I think the hard rez should be for the monks, and rez sigs should be for everyone else. Rez on a non-monk is a life ring, and if, as mentioned before, fewer morons were using their sigs whenever a Dredge farted, there would be plenty of sigs around. Besides, with full health and 70% energy for sunspear rank general, plus getting you out of Dodge, Rebirth Sig is the best rebirth option.

As far as the subject....Rez chant is better than resurrect, as it is nice to actually have some energy to build on. BUT Rebirth can pull the ally from the danger zone, which can be good when an aggro group is still near the massacre.

I could bring up the dearth of quality in pugs that makes a hard rez necessary, but....another post.

Rebirth:
very useful to rez a whole party after a deadly fight.
If you know how to swap focus like I do, I probably can rez 3 members in a roll.

Chant + HB:
Useful with fast rez during a fight.

Chant + GoS:
Instant rez ftw.

What res you use is mainly depended on the mission and are you are in:

[skill]rebirth[/skill] DoA, UW, FoW, Urgoz, The Deep needs at least one rebirth for near party wipe outs. Also handy to bring at least one copy if you vanquish and can't afford candy canes.


Other then that:

I want to second Dr. Strangelove and Fallen Nephilim,

[skill]Death Pact Signet[/skill] Death Pact is just too awesome to not be used. Assuming your partners are not suicidal and you have at least a bit of communication in the team.

Sunspear Signet is a great pve res as well like others pointed out. Always on my bar if I am not monk or ritualist secondary.

[skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill] If i play my mesmer I almost always bring resurrection chant. Fast res is just too much fun.

[skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill] Other then that the good old Resurrection Signetstill is my love if you get morale boost more frequently ... Only viable res skill at killing Abbadon IMO.

The reason you see this on so many bars is because it is free skill unlike the others with the exception of rebirth in Prophecies is free.The other hard resses you have to buy and use a skill point.It would be nice if as mentioned few times before that resurrect was given to you in pre. and restorelife you got in post.The other camps can be much the same way when leaving the training Islands and getting better hard res.

It is just free skill.

[skill]Death Pact Signet[/skill] = Win.

Great recharge, casting time and the drawbacks can be avoided. You can switch to a high energy set before activating it so the recipient is resurrected with high energy too.

This really annoys people (the opposition) in RA.

Yup, can be really annoying for a monk being ressed to 0 energy mid fight. Even worse is someone using Rebirth on you in mid fight with 0 prot points. You just stand there like a headless chicken because you have 0 energy and your skills are disabled for 10 seconds.

As long as they know how to use the res of their choice and when not to use it, it's better than no res at all.

Btw, energy denial set, glyph of lesser energy goes nice with Rebirth too XD. Certainly speeds up the process with rebirth in a no time limit mission or vanquishings.

This thread's given me a lot of food for thought. I'm a 'sin, but I've always been in the habit of carrying a rez wherever I go, and couldn't understand why everyone else doesn't do the same.

After reading this thread, I'm still not quite sure why you wouldn't everyone to at least have a Rez Sig, but I do think I'm going to go ahead and see about this Death Pact Signet. Won't be able to use it with my more reckless friends, but there's just something about a 2 second rez that's... appetizing.

I pretty much always use res chant now or depending on the situation flesh of my flesh comes in handy on heros because of it being so fast.

But before those i always took resurrect because it was so easy to aquire!

I recall resurrect as one of the only free hard rezzes in the game, especially if you play mo/ or /mo in prophecies. Many people got it and didn't bother to buy another rez skill, since why waste 1k on another rez? :P

I use Rebirth when I'm running with henches & heroes unless I can't have a /mo secondary. I have them carry Death Pact Signet, Res Chant or Renew Life for battle res.

Rebirth is fine for me cos I don't res H&H in battle. If things are going that badly, I beat a tactical retreat. In pugs, I like Death Pact or Sunspear Rebirth

Well the main problem I have with res signet is, it's one use, if you run into trouble and the only guys alive are the ones that had res signet your kinda screwed. Least with some form of ress spell it's reusable. Had this problem when using nothing but henchmen and only monks brought ressurect, you get half way through the mission and there be no ressurect.

Well as a mesmer primary I refuse to run into the middle of a battle to rez someone
So ressurect is the best option for me, I can quickly rez someone and keep fighting without getting into any danger
There's also the fact that me and ressurect have had some good times together, I'm not abandoning it

healer henchmen use res chant. would they deceive us?!!

I however like not bringing a res and being the last one alive, then making it appear that I have this big plan to bring the entire party back to life singlehandedly by carefully positioning myself between some rocks for safety..
"you gonna res us man?" and I say "dw I"ll find him" and as I run, and they wonder.. find who? a calm comes over us. our souls are at peace now.

No, not probably. It very literally is. It's the only rez skill (including signets) that has no advantage over anything else. Its got the worst (or very nearly so) of everything. I've complained about this to people before and they sarcastically respond with, "well I could just leave you dead if you'd prefer." As if having 25% health in the middle of a fight is preferable somehow. Gee.. thanks for doubling my death penalty..
